Round 1 of Ingenious 2019


Given below are the rules, scoring and assessment criteria that will help you navigate your way through the first round of the competition.

  • Round 1 is a qualifying quiz round which includes 8 quizzes that are to be played over a span of 2 weeks.
  • Each team will have to attempt 8 multiple choice questions based online quizzes. Each quiz will be based on one of the following themes:
    • League of Moguls
    • Pic-a-boo
    • Back to Basics
    • Technocrats
    • Biz Bang Theory
    • Game of Brands
    • 7th July 1981
    • In-quiz-itive
  • The sequence of the quizzes will be randomized for every team. (Eg. the first quiz for Team A may be Technocrats but for Team B the first quiz can be In-quiz-itive)
  • One of the quizzes is a bonus quiz wherein the scores will get multiplied by 2x. However, you will not know which is the bonus quiz until the end of Round 1. So make sure you attempt all the quizzes.
  • There will be a three-hour time window to take up the quizzes as per the schedule below -

* Please note that requests for extensions beyond the time mentioned in the schedule above will not be entertained.
  • Quizzes are to be played as a team on one device only. Any team detected trying to log in from multiple devices during the same quiz window will be disqualified.
  • Please ensure that you play the quizzes on Google Chrome or Mozilla Firefox.
  • Each quiz has 10 questions that are to be answered in 2.5 minutes.
  • Each correct answer is worth 10 points. There is no negative marking for wrong answers.
  • There is a time bonus for finishing the quiz in less than 2.5 minutes. The aim is to get the maximum correct answers in the shortest possible time.
  • Teams will get 10 bonus points for every finished quiz.
  • The final score of each team will depend on 2 factors –
    • Number of right answers.
    • Time taken to complete the quiz.
  • Time bonus will be calculated on the basis of the following formula –
    [{(Total Time - Time Taken)/Total Time}* Quiz Score]
  • Each team is required to take at least 4 quizzes in Round 1 to be eligible to qualify for the next round.
  • The teams will be evaluated on the cumulative scores of all the quizzes. Top 250 teams with highest scores will move to Round 2 with a caveat that a maximum of 10 teams only can qualify from each eligible institute.

Round 2 of Ingenious 2019


Congratulations on acing Round One! You are now among the top 252 teams from colleges across India.

  • Round 2 will be an inter-college online quizzing round.
  • This time around, you choose which team you want to challenge and play against!
  • Each team will be categorized into one of the following buckets, based on their performance in the first round -
    • Gold
    • Silver
    • Bronze
  • There are a total of 9 quizzes to be played over a span of 3 days (3 quizzes per day) on 26th, 27th & 28th August:

  • Each quiz has 20 questions that are to be answered in 3.5 minutes (210 seconds).
  • Each correct answer is worth 10 points.
  • There is no negative marking for incorrect answers, so take your best guess!
  • There is a lifeline of 50-50 that can be used once per quiz. This will eliminate 2 wrong answers from among the 4 options.
  • Your final score remains unaffected irrespective of your choice of using the lifeline.
  • The final score will comprise of 4 factors –
    • Quiz Score
    • Time Bonus
    • Challenge Bonus
    • Betting Bonus
  • Quiz Score is calculated on the basis of number of questions that are accurately answered.
  • Time bonus will be calculated on the basis of the following formula –
    [{(Total time - Time Taken)/Total Time}* Quiz Score]
  • Challenge bonus is awarded basis the college of the opponent you choose to play against. The following formula will be used for calculation –
    • Challenge teams from your own college: (Quiz Score + Time Bonus)*0.25
    • Challenge teams from a college other than your own: (Quiz Score + Time Bonus)*0.5
  • Your category will be very important in this round as it will determine the betting bonus. Big points to score here so pay attention! A sample scoring for a team in the Bronze bucket is given below –
    • - If the opponent is a Gold pool player:

    • Win state: Bonus points = 3x (where x is the difference in points, where points = quiz score + time bonus)
    • Lose state: Negative points = 0.25x (where x is the difference in points, where points = quiz score + time bonus)
    • - Against a Silver pool player:

    • Win state: Bonus points = 2.5x
    • Lose state: Negative points = 0.5x
    • - Against a Bronze pool player:

    • Win state: Bonus points = 2x
    • Lose state: Negative points = 1x

  • Every team has to play 3 unique quizzes per day by challenging 3 opponents.
  • Any one team cannot be challenged by more than two opponents for the same quiz. Teams that have been challenged twice will disappear from the available list of opponents.
  • If a team misses out on taking a quiz within the time limit, their score will be taken as zero & the opponent team’s winning score will be calculated accordingly.
  • Once a team finishes the quiz, the final score will be shown instantly, provided the opponent that they selected has already finished the quiz. In case the opponent team has not finished its quiz yet, the final score will be calculated once the opponent completes their quiz.
  • Teams can check their position in the leaderboard at the end of every day.

The top 30 teams with the highest cumulative scores will move forward to the next round.





Round 3 of Ingenious 2019


Hearty Congratulations on reaching the semi-finals of Ingenious 2019! You’re in the big league now!

Here on the competition is set to get even more exciting.. Round 3 will be a case study competition which will test the depth of your knowledge and business acumen. We are looking for out of the box ideas and creative bents of mind. No traditional solutions here as you will be creating a video as well as a presentation to showcase your case solutions.

The case study is attached for your reference. The video and PPT are to be uploaded on the server between 30th August to 5th September 2019.


Some guidelines to be followed for the case solution are given below –

  • You are encouraged to browse through articles available on the internet pertaining to the relevant industry for the case study – please mention your references. Note that there is no single right answer.
  • The depth, viability and creativity of your solution will be taken into consideration for evaluating your recommended scenario.
  • The solution is to be submitted in the form of a video including but not limited to presentations by all members in the team.. Please include any annexures or workings in the ppt.
  • The video and ppt should be uploaded as a single .zip file.
  • The zip file name should be the team leader's name as submitted at the time of registration.
  • Please strictly adhere to the following size specifications for the video and ppt –
    • The video should be for a maximum duration of 3 minutes. Please maintain a minimum of 720 p (HD) quality for the videos.
    • The ppt is an annexure to the video and should not exceed 5 slides.
    • The size of the zip file should not exceed 100 MB.
  • Please ensure that presentations and videos uploaded by you do not contain any personal/sensitive information about you or your team mates.

The case solutions will be reviewed by industry leaders and only the top 5 teams will move ahead to the grand finale which will be held at the Infosys headquarters in Bangalore. The finish line is in sight.. Give it your all!
